Patrol cites street racing in deaths

Four people were killed this weekend on state roadways, including one wreck involving street racing that killed two people, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said Sunday.

Dead are:

Johnnie Moore Jr., 24, of Henryetta;

Jeffery Lawrence, 24, of Henryetta;

Brett Evan Sloan, 34, of Norman;

Christy Rubes, 26, of Oklahoma City.

Moore was killed along with his passenger, Jeffery Lawrence, while Moore was racing north on U.S. 75 about 1:40 p.m. Saturday just south of Bollinger Road in Okmulgee County, the patrol said.

Moore and Lawrence were dead at the scene. Moore wore a seat belt; Lawrence did not.

The patrol did not release any information about another vehicle Moore was said to be racing.

Sloan was driving a motorcycle north on State Highway 102 and swerved to miss a southbound vehicle that went left of center and into his path about 1:35 a.m. Sunday.

Sloan, who was wearing a helmet, lost control and overturned the motorcycle.

Rubes was driving east on SW 115 when she lost control and overturned near Richland Road about 11:45 p.m. Saturday, police Lt. Barry Clark said.

Rubes, who was not wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected.
